I learned the heart of God in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
John 12:24 “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
Completely Alone
I was born in a small village.
My parents married after only two meetings, but my father was violent, often drunk and brawling, which resulted in two prison sentences.
After marriage, my father severely beat my mother and sometimes my sister and me.
When I was 6 years old, my father died.
But my mom had already become an alcoholic.
Our family lived below the poverty line, often we had nothing to eat and we could not heat the house in winter.
Every time my mother drank, it felt as if a demonic presence had possessed her.
As a result, I grew up as a complex and frightened child.
When I was 13, my older sister went to university and moved to Odessa, and I was left alone.
I had to take care of my blind grandmother and face court because the house could be taken away due to debts, resolving adult problems.
It was too much for me, so kneeling before the Lord I asked: "Lord, I have no father and essentially no mother, could you be my father?"
And He really was.
He gave me protection and help in everything.
Thanks to God, I graduated from school with honors and entered Odessa National University.
Odessa, a luxurious tourist port city, turned out to be culturally shocking for a humble villager like me.
And I had nothing, no parental support, no money.
Faced with these problems, I contemplated becoming someone's mistress to get support.
Once, I accepted a stranger's offer to join him for coffee, but he took me out of the city and demanded more.
Against my will, that man began to beat and strangle me.
Almost semi-conscious, I prayed to God, telling Him that if He saves me now, I will live as He tells me.
Suddenly, the man stopped and began to apologize.
The Lord Found Me
After this incident, a deep depression overtook me.
I saw no sense in living.
Then I was invited to the UBF church.
During the first service, the Lord gave me the message through Mark 12:30: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength!”
It was a direct response to my prayer in the stranger’s car.
These words brought enlightenment, giving life a new meaning.
During the Easter conference that spring, I accepted Jesus through Mark 15:34, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani," which translates: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Since then, the Lord began my healing process.
I found a church family that supported me and I am especially thankful to missionary Grace, who fed me with a mother’s heart.
I saw Jesus through her.
In 2003, the Lord created the first home church in Odessa UBF between Pastor Abraham and me, guided by John 12:24: "Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed; but if it dies, it produces much fruit."
I am sincerely grateful for my husband, through whose love and respect God restored my self-esteem and sense of worth in God.
In 2004, our family went to the city of Dnipro as pioneers.
My mother accompanied us, and through Bible study repented and met Jesus.
The Lord freed her from alcoholism and she became our help in the missionary field.
We served in Dnipro for 14 years.
They were wonderful years with only the Lord.
Our main disciple was Ilya, the classmate of Stefan, who attends this conference.
The Lord is with Us in the War
In 2018, our family returned to Odessa, resuming our service there.
However, in February 2022, when Ukraine was engulfed in a large-scale war, people believed it was a misunderstanding.
But rocket attacks on residential buildings at night, the destruction of entire cities, the destruction of a dam, the mining of a nuclear power plant are far from a misunderstanding, this is the deadliest and most destructive war since World War II, exceeding the intensity of conflicts in Afghanistan and Syria by 30 times.
Seeing tens of thousands of innocent people suffer, perish, endure hunger, cold, floods, torture in the occupied regions and captivity, charged me heavily.
It brought back the traumas of my childhood, where I experienced prolonged hunger, slept in a freezing house, and endured attempts at rape and assault.
However, I had survived only thanks to God's unwavering protection.
I often told God in prayer: God, take my life instead of a child's; if someone needs health and healing, take
